The AT is no longer the longest hiking trail—the Pacific Crest and Continental Divide trails, both out West, are slightly longer—but it will always be the first and greatest. It has a lot of friends. It deserves them.

I think there is just a vein of humanity that really loves animals and really loves to read about them.

No one has yet determined the power of the human species . . . what it may  perform by instinct, and what it may accomplish with rational determination.

In life we become mature and responsible if words begins to change us but not by punishment or torture.
