Not that any of the sysadmin’s knowledge and skills were applicable here.  The psychological stance was the thing: the implicit faith, a little naive and a little cocky, that by banging his head against the problem for long enough he’d be able to break through in the end.

In all such local tragedies time works like a damp brush on water color. The sharp edges blur, the ache goes out of it, the colors melt together, and from the many separated lines a solid gray emerges.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it fails, but that&#39;s what we face when we&#39;re dealing with improvisation.

The trouble with learning from experience is that you never graduate.
